A family name, a city’s trust.
From a single counter near Thanjavur Junction to neighbourhood stores across the delta — this is how State came to be.
Since the early days
Where it began, and where we are.
State began as a single counter on Gandhiji Road, a short walk from Thanjavur Junction. State Medical Mart grew into a wholesale and retail house that the city’s families, clinics and hospitals came to rely on — for the everyday tablet and for the hard-to-find injection alike.
Over the years the State name has travelled across Thanjavur’s neighbourhoods — the Old Bus Stand and South Rampart, Anna Nagar and the New Bus Stand, Navaneethapuram, Tholkapiyar Nagar and Gnanam Nagar on the Nagai road — and onward to Pattukkottai. Every store keeps the same promise: genuine medicines, stored with care, handed over by people who take the time to explain.

The Thanjavur way
Healing is an old art in this city.
When Rajaraja Chola I raised the Brihadeeswarar Temple a thousand years ago, Thanjavur became a capital of art, learning and medicine. Centuries later the Maratha king Serfoji II kept physicians at his Dhanvantari Mahal, preparing remedies and recording the care of each patient — manuscripts that still rest in the Saraswathi Mahal Library.
State is a small, modern chapter of that long story: a neighbourhood pharmacy that still believes care should be personal.
